Start with the portraits you imagine

A maternity portrait can hold several feelings at once. You might love a quiet photograph on your own and also want the closeness of your partner or children beside you. There is no need to reduce those ideas to one before you contact the studio. Begin by describing the photographs you keep coming back to and the people who belong in this chapter.

Save a small selection of references that speak to you. They might be sculptural, flowing, intimate or simple. Notice what you are responding to: the shape of fabric, the space around a person, a gentle expression or a strong contrast in color. Those observations are more useful than feeling that you need to reproduce every detail of another portrait.

Tell us who you would love to include

Let us know whether you would like your partner, children or other loved ones to join you when you inquire. That gives us a starting point for planning groupings and styling. It also gives you space to name the relationships you most want the photographs to hold.

If children are part of the plan, share their ages and anything that helps them feel comfortable. Think about how everyone might dress together as well as how your own portrait will look. Pieces can connect through color and texture without requiring every person to wear the same thing.

It can help to write a short list of the combinations that matter to you. Keep it focused on the people and the feeling, rather than a long sequence of exact poses. We guide positioning and expression during the session, so you do not need to arrive knowing how to stand or where to put your hands.

Choose the feeling, then discuss the wardrobe

Share the colors and shapes you love with the studio. We can discuss the gown collection and any personal pieces you would like to bring, then confirm the options for your session. An image in the portfolio can be a useful reference for a conversation; it does not mean a particular garment or look has already been reserved.

Comfort belongs in that discussion from the beginning. Tell us about the timing you have in mind and any considerations you want us to understand. The plan should leave room for the person in the portrait, including how you feel about movement, closeness and the clothing you choose.
